First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring St.: "Abide in Jesus" will be the sermon for the 10:30 a.m. worship service. At 9, the fifth-Sunday breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the youth attending the Montreat music camp. Activities for the children and youth are will be held at 4:30 p.m. The Branch, a contemporary worship time, will begin in the sanctuary at 6:15 p.m. Billy Walker, director of music ministries, and the youth attending Montreat will present a music program following the 5:45 p.m. Wednesday meal. Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 212 Sunset Drive, Johnson City: There will be two services with Holy Communion. Traditional service meets in the nave at 9 a.m. and Heartsong Americana service meets in the fellowship hall at 11:15 a.m. Please use the backing parking lot for the 11:15 service. Special events and sermons

Called Out: Called Out Southern Gospel Music ministry will sing in the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, April 29, at St. John’s Freewill Baptist Church in Roan Mountain.

Singspiration: The Area Singspiration, sponsored by the Carter County Christian Men's Fellowship, will be held Sunday, April 29, at 6 p.m., hosted by Southside Christian Church, 1610 Southside Road, Elizabethton. The service theme is "In Christ Alone" with Phillip Smith as worship leader. There will be great congregational singing as well as many special music solos and ensembles from the area Christian churches.

Church Women United: The Johnson City District of Church Women United will meet on Friday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Church at 701 Depot St. in Jonesborough. This will be a salad luncheon and participants are asked to bring a salad. May Friendship Day will be celebrated. The program will be led by the women of Phillippi Church of Elizabethton. Cornerstone Village, 2012 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, TN will host the singing group No Name But His on Monday evening, April 30, at 6. No Name But His is a local gospel group that enjoys spreading God's word in music throughout the area. The group consists of Dave Dugger, Charlie Edwards, Bob Heaton, Gary Simerly, Evelyn Dugger, Jimmy Dunn and Haley Younce.

Benefit singing: A benefit singing for Wendell and Cindy Phillips will be held at Elk River Baptist Church, 5117 U.S. Highway 321 in Butler on Saturday, April 28, at 6 p.m. Singers include Sacred Journey, Sounds of Victory and Jennifer Gillenwater. Information, call Jackie Wiseman at 423-542-5453.

World Day of Prayer: Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, will open its doors on Thursday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for anyone to come in and pray. The National Day of Prayer mobilizes unified public prayer for America. Anyone may come in and stay as long as they wish to offer up whatever prayers they have upon their hearts and minds.

Fashion show: St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Johnson City will present the Men of Distinction Fashion Show Saturday April 28. The event will feature pastors and their deacon or steward and will be at 6 p.m. at the Carver Recreation Center.
