ELIZABETHTON — One of the oldest festivals in Elizabethton will be back for another run this summer under new leadership.

The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department announced Wednesday that it will oversee Covered Bridge Days. The event is scheduled to take place June 10 through June 13.

The festival, which celebrates the iconic covered bridge in downtown Elizabethton, has been led by the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce. That organization announced last year that it was looking to refocus its assets to better serve its membership and would search for a successor to take over the Covered Bridge event.

In Wednesday’s announcement, the Parks and Recreation Department said the festival at the beginning of the summer season has been “a staple in the community” for more than 50 years “bringing entertainment, arts, food and culture to Covered Bridge Park for residents and visitors alike.”

The city department is already actively sponsoring events in the Covered Bridge Park, and noted its activities in Wednesday’s announcement: “the Parks and Recreation Department is excited to build on the success of this event while expanding upon new features and opportunities.

“It is a great addition to the events and programming the department already oversees including the free summer music series, Covered Bridge Jams, the Show on the Doe movie in the park series and many more.”

Department officials said they will soon be “reaching out to local businesses and agencies with sponsorship opportunities that help to ensure the success of this event.”
