That has certainly been the case with the recent football season enjoyed by the team, the fans and the marching band of Elizabethton High School. The team has had a spectacular run of outstanding wins this season, and that season is about to reach its climax in the state championship game. The team will be joined by many of its fans and the Betsy Band.
David McQueen, an employee of the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, speaks for many when he recently commented on whether he would make the trip. “This is a once in a lifetime thing,” McQueen said. He is a graduate of Elizabethton, and his children also walked its orange and black halls. He was always loyal to the school and its institutions and would never miss a Christmas parade and a chance to watch one of his children marching in the parade.
There are many other Elizabethton families who will be missing an Elizabethton Christmas parade for the first time in a long time so the they can cheer on the Cyclones. It is just another thing that is making 2019 one of the most memorable years in school history.
There have been some calls on social media to change the date of the parade from Dec. 7, but others have said that would not be fair those who have arrange schedules and plans to participate in the parade on Dec. 7. The Chamber of Commerce, who is in the last year of leading the parade, issued a press release to announce the parade date would stand.
The release went on to say that “after much consideration, conversation and contact with those individuals and
groups who are planning to participate in the upcoming Christmas Parade; the Chamber board has decided to keep the scheduled date and time of Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. for the 2019 Christmas Parade.”
According to the Chamber, there are over 800 participants from among more than 50 different groups from Elizabethton and Carter County who are planning on participating in the parade. Since the parade’s date is annually set for the first Saturday in December, many of these groups have planned for months in advance and would not be able to take part in the event if the date or time were changed.
