ELIZABETHTON — The annual Overmountain Weavers’ Guild Fiber Fair will once again take place at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park, 1651 W. Elk Ave. This year, the fair will be on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The annual Fiber Fair is presented by the Overmountain Weavers Guild from Exchange Place in Kingsport. It is part of the guild’s mission to keep alive the skills of the fiber arts and pass them to following genrations.

On the day of the fair, many of the most talented fiber artists of the region will come together to share their talents and their wares. Weavers will throw their shuttles, spinners will ply their yarns and botanists will transform tough plant stalks into silky fibers.

Visitors will be invited to try their hand at a loom or a spinning wheel. Knitters and crocheters will answer questions and give helpful hints about their craft. Hands-on opportunities for children will be available.

In addition, many area vendors will be selling fine handmade items, beautiful jewelry, handmade scarves, housewares, mittens and hats, goat milk soap and related products.

For visitors interested in learning to weave, guild members will offer a chance to sign up for a beginning weaving class. The classes will be held each Saturday and Sunday in August. A sing-up sheet will be at the information desk at the Fiber Fair.
