ELIZABETHTON — The best place for Christmas shopping before Black Friday will be at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, 300 W. Mill St., this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10.

The General Federated Woman’s Club Christmas Craft Show features 58 booths, which will be manned by local artists and craftsmen who will be exhibiting their handcrafted works for sale. These are mostly Christmas-type items.

This has long been a favorite for Christmas shoppers in the community. The sale was once held annually at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park before the interactive museum was built.

The event has continued to prosper after it made its move to the Recreation Center. GFWC spokeswoman Lilo Duncan said the 58 vendors “will take all of the room in the gym.” In addition to the homemade crafts, Duncan said there will also be homemade soups and chili and baked goods.

Christmas music, performed by keyboardist Scott Reynolds, will add to the festive atmosphere.

The event will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
