When Steve McGuire drove over Jonas Ridge from Conover, N.C., he did not expect to meet any new friends, but a couple of friendly folks from Erwin sat down in a shady spot next to him and soon they were enjoying not only the festival but also a friendly chat.
The two from Erwin were Elmer Arwood and Nancy Rogers. Both said they enjoy the festival and having a lot of guests in the town for a few days. McGuire agreed it was a friendly atmosphere and the apple fried pies were pretty good too.
Coming from the opposite direction were Dakota Clark and Emily McColman, both of Nashville. This was the first time Clark had ever been to the festival, but it was the third for McColman. She has family in Erwin and chose the festival weekend as an excellent time to pay a visit.
Carson and Marsha Shepherd did not have as far to travel. They are from Roan Mountain and have visited the festival several times.
