The fair opens on August 20 and continues through Aug. 25 with the Fairest of the Fair contest being staged at 7:30 p.m. on opening day at the Museum Stage.
The winner will preside at this year’s fair and will also receive a $2,500 cash award and represent the Appalachian Fair in the Tennessee Fairest of the Fair contest in January, 2019.
Contestants are sponsored by a civic organization, a business firm or a family member.
Contestant must have reached her 16th but not her 21st birthday on or before Dec. 31. She must be a resident of Tennessee. The costume must be formal and of floor length.
The contestants will be judged on beauty, poise and personality.
Hope Stidham, 2017’s Fairest of the Fair, and will crown the new queen on Monday night.
