As work begins gearing up for the celebration, the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce is searching for some eager volunteers to help with the many jobs that make the festival successful.
Tonya Stevens, Chamber of Commerce director, said the volunteer jobs are open to anyone who is 16 and older and are good for those who need community service credits. Stevens said the jobs are flexible and there is even something to do for someone who can only work a few hours a day.
Some of the volunteer jobs are:
● Vendor volunteer: These workers assist vendors in setting up and checking in, provide vendor packets and vendor location information, answer vendor questions pertaining to the event and direct traffic flow of incoming vendors.
● Entertainment volunteer: These workers help with traffic flow, guiding entertainers and band members to the appropriate loading and parking zones, assist with the unloading, loading of equipment as needed, assist with requests from performers, such as filling drink coolers and monitoring the stage area during and between acts, and assist with merchandise tables as needed.
● Information services volunteer: These workers provide event information to festival patrons, sell event items and assist other volunteers in assignment locations and questions.
● Hotdog sales: Two volunteers per time frame are needed to prepare and sell hotdogs, chips and drinks from a trailer managed by the Chamber. These volunteers can take shifts in 3-4 hour increments (Saturday is the greatest need).
The celebration takes place at the Covered Bridge Park, which runs from East Elk Ave to Riverside Drive. Hours will vary depending on the area you prefer. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Vendor load-in will take place on Thursday. Entertainment volunteers will be needed by 2 p.m. each day
Volunteers will report to a member of the Covered Bridge Committee or Chamber staff as assigned. All volunteers will be required to conform to the dress code set forth by the Chamber. Event T-shirts along with modest shorts/pants will be required. Tennis shoes are the most comfortable footwear. All volunteers are expected to display courtesy and respect to all patrons, staff, vendors, entertainers and other volunteers.
