TVA to conduct prescribed burn on Friday

Staff reports • Apr 2, 2020 at 7:04 PM

The Tennessee Valley Authority plans two prescribed burns on Friday, April 3, on public lands managed by the federal utility near Boone Lake in Sullivan County in coordination with state, local officials and adjacent landowners.

Prescribed burning is a recognized natural resource management tool to help maintain and establish wildlife habitat, and reduce thatch and leaves that help fuel wildfires.

Weather permitting, the first burn will be conducted at the Forks of the River parcel located at the end of Geisler Road around 11 a.m.

The team will then conduct a prescribed burn at the Earl Light parcel near Boone Dam. The total time of both prescribed burns is planned to last about four hours.
