Keep Carter County Beautiful providing recycling bins for upcoming events

ELIZABETHTON — There is always something new at the Covered Bridge Celebration, and one of the new events this year is the new recycling bins being placed around the bridge events to encourage recycling.

The bins are the property of the local volunteer environmental organization Keep Carter County Beautiful. In addition to placing recycling bins at the cruise-in and Covered Bridge Celebration, the group is also staging its bins at the Roan Mountain State Park for the upcoming Rododendron Festival and at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park for the upcoming summer activities there.

Keep Carter County Beautiful volunteer Ed Basconi is coordinating those recycling efforts.

The Keep Carter County volunteers are responsible for setting up the bins and for taking the recyclables to the recycling center.

The organization is also working to get the bins paced inside the school system.

The bins are made available through a grant from the Keep America Beautiful Coca-Cola Public Space Recycling Grant. The grant provided 35 ClearStream recycling bins, plus 100 plastic bags.
