The board of directors met Wednesday and a list of future cleanup projects are being planned and suggestions are being encouraged from the public.
The directors also heard that their latest cleanup of U.S. Highway 19E, sponsored by the Elizabethton Lions Club, and the Milligan Highway, sponsored by Keep Carter County Beautiful, were both successes, thanks to a lot of volunteers.
Carter County Director of Schools Kevin Ward attended the meeting and he suggested that a cleanup effort be attempted in Dennis Cove. He said work groups that clean ditch lines along the road would help the area.
Ward was at the meeting to inform the board about the ecology information being taught and encouraged in the Carter County School System. He said the events include school-sponsored spring cleanups and Earth Day activities.
Ward said the Clean Teens program has been sponsored by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department for 11 years now, and provides a chance for high school students to perform skits at every elementary school in the county, to deliver anti-littering and anti-bullying messages.
The board discussed ways to resolve some confusion with local government over how Keep Carter County Tomorrow receives donations. Board Chairman Ed Jordan plans to discuss the matter with government leaders.
