Tours of Sabine Hill House, demonstrations of 19th century games offered this weekend

ELIZABETHTON — Join the Sabine Hill Social Society this Saturday, May 12, for the celebration of the arrival of spring and Mother’s Day with an afternoon of early 19th century historical games presented by interpreters in period attire.

The games will include Battledore and Shuttlecock and will be played from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be historic games on the grounds of Sabine Hill throughout the day on Saturday. There ill also be guided tours of the 200-year-old house scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Registration is required to tour the house and the cost per tour is:

• Adults — $7.

• Ages 7 to 17 years — $3.

• 6 and under free.

The Sabine Hill Social Society supports Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park’s educational efforts by providing educational events related to the early 19th century, which include English country dance, leisure activities, teas, workshops, speakers and more.

Sabine Hill is described as one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in Tennessee and was dedicated this past November. Restored by the Tennessee Historical Commission and operated by Tennessee State Parks, the house has been returned to its 1818 splendor.

The historic Sabine Hill house is located at 2328 W. G St.
