Manchester to perform at Paramount Center for the Arts

Grammy Award winner Melissa Manchester will perform at Paramount Center for the Arts, 518 State Street, Bristol, on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Manchester was nominated for a Grammy in 1978 and 1979 and received the Grammy Award in 1982 for Best Female Vocalist. In 2010, she co-created and starred in the five-time Ovation Award nominated ballroom dance spectacular “Fascinating Rhythms” at the Rubicon Theatre, and her song “I Know Who I Am,” co-written with Joanna Cotton and Greg Barnhill, was recorded by Leona Lewis for the Tyler Perry feature film “For Colored Girls Only.” Visit her website at http://melissa-manchester.com.

JCSO to present annual

Pops Concert

The Johnson City Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Robert Seebacher will present their free pops concert Sunday, Sept. 8, at Winged Deer Park at 6 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the Johnson City Press. Pack up a picnic supper, your lawn chairs or a blanket and the family and come listen to marches, movie music, show tunes and your pops favorites on the shore of Boone Lake.

This annual musical gift to the community precedes the regular subscription season, which opens Oct. 12. Featuring cellist Cherylonda Fitzgerald, the October concert includes music by Antonin Dvorak and Jean Sibelius.

Information about the rest of the season and season tickets will be available at the Winged Deer Park concert.
