Providence Academy sophomore Tim Easterling became the first student at his school to earn his solo wings with the FLIGHT Foundation on Dec. 22.

He received a solo scholarship from his parents, Greg and Cindy Easterling, and the Ray Foundation. Easterly soloed in a Cessna 152 in 8.1 hours at the Greeneville airport as the 199th solo student overall in the FLIGHT Foundation-sponsored High School/College Flight Program.

FLIGHT, a nonprofit program founded by retired Air Force Lt. Col. Bill Powley, teaches Tennessee students to fly and sets them up for their future careers. It’s been recognized as one of the best flight programs in the nation and was inducted into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame.
