Wes Smith has been named an assistant principal at Science Hill High School and Damon Mazoff will be an assistant principal at Liberty Bell Middle School. Smith replaces Johnathan Minton, who was named principal at Elizabethton High School. Mazoff replaces Dr. Charles Corwin, who has also moved to the high school as an assistant principal. Corwin will serve as testing coordinator and help oversee Career and Technical Education.
“We are very excited to have these two experienced educators joining our administrative teams,” Barnett said. “Both Wes and Damon bring valuable knowledge that will be welcomed additions to each school.”
Smith has served the past five years as the High School Supervisor and CTE Director for Hawkins County Schools. He previously served as an assistant principal for six years at Volunteer High School.
Smith obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (1997) and a Master’s Degree in Education (2000) from the University of Tennessee. He earned his Educational Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in 2005.
“I am very excited about joining the team at Science Hill,” Smith said. “Science Hill is respected regionally as a school of excellence and they get a lot done. I am excited to get back into a position where I work closely with students again because that is why I got into education in the first place.”
Mazoff brings 24 years of educational experience, including 12 years in administration. He has experience at both the middle and high school levels and served most recently as the principal of Marion Middle School in Marion, Virginia.
Mazoff earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Clarion University. He also holds a Master’s of Science in Educational Leadership from Radford University.
“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work at Liberty Bell Middle School,” Mazoff said. “I am looking forward to working with the staff and students in such a large and successful district.”
