Academy Principal Jamie Gray said he’s excited to kick off the new school year on Aug. 5.
“We look forward to the opportunity to educate children in Northeast Tennessee and continue the success that we’ve had in our school,” Gray said.
The online academy is a fully-accredited public school with a traditional academic calendar from August to May and offers a tuition-free online-learning option for local students who need academic flexibility. Courses are available 24/7, meaning students with sporadic schedules are able to complete their courses however they see fit.
Gray said the online academy also offers dual enrollment opportunities, which allow students to take college courses and earn college credit. All credits apply toward high school graduation requirements.
“It’s a great way for students to create their own learning environment and get their diploma moving forward,” Gray said. “It gives students the opportunity to work from home.”
Last year, Gray said the academy enrolled 38 students. He said 10 students graduated.
“This (last) year was the largest class, and the year before, we had 27 students,” he said. “It is overall helping with the graduation rate for Washington County.”
