3 local students among 24 to receive $1,000 Comcast scholarships

Three local students were among 24 East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia students awarded $24,000 in scholarships as part of Comcast NBCUniversal’s annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship program, the media company announced Monday.

The program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, is a $1,000 scholarship program awarded to the best and brightest high school seniors for community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Nearly $28 million has been awarded to about 27,000 high school seniors since the program began in 2001.

Local winners were:

• Nolan Bledsoe (Daniel Boone High School).

• Mary Whaley (David Crockett High School).

• Caroline Koscak (Providence Academy).
