Hands On events for January

January events at Hands On Museum

Through Sunday, Jan. 21 — Drinking Straw Science. In honor of Drinking Straw Day, uncover the hidden science of straws with a floating ball game, make a straw “flute" and try out the double straw challenge. The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

Monday, Jan. 8, 4-6 p.m. — Sensory Night. The free event is designed for children with sensory integration needs and their immediate family. Lighting and sound as well as other environmental elements are adjusted and the museum will be closed to the public during this event. Registration is required; early registration is recommended. Wednesday, Jan. 17 — Kid Inventors Day. Feature exhibit “Make It. Take It.” will be open to tinker, make, craft, build, design, learn and DIY with an array of materials and tools provided by the museum. Participants provide the inspiration, creativity and fun. Extra "challenges" throughout the day will be held to test the ingenuity and skill of participants.

Tuesday, Jan. 23-Sunday, Feb. 25 — For the Love of Science. Some fun experiments to help celebrate Valentine's Day, such as an optical illusion heart. Learn about solubility while creating a Sharpie tie-dye valentine and enjoy a show of dancing, bobbing conversation heart candies. The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

The museum will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, for New Year's Day and Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For more information, call 423-434-4263 (HAND).
