One of six men charged in the December 2018 death of a fellow inmate at the Washington County Detention Center pleaded guilty to his charge in a Jonesborough courtroom on Friday.

Glendon R. Wilkerson, 40, was charged with accessory after the fact to aggravated assault resulting in death. He pleaded guilty as charged to that crime as well as pending charges, according to his defense attorney, Ryan Curtis.

Wilkerson and five others — John Z. Woodard, 23, Jonathan R. Pearson, 38, Wesley E. Clouse, 23, Cody J. Albu, 23, and Steve Necessary, 43, were charged in an alleged conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting the death of Joseph Lockner, 29, 109 Sheri St., Gray.

Lockner was found unresponsive Dec. 17 on the bathroom floor of a minimum-security cell block by a detention officer after the officer heard a commotion in the bathroom area.

“The allegation against (Wilkerson) was different in that he was never accused of being part of a conspiracy to assault someone,” Curtis said. “He was accused of not being forthright with investigators about what he saw and heard. He just happened to be charged in the same presentment.”

Wilkerson also pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and possession of methamphetamine charges. He was sentenced to serve 11 months in jail and 10 years of supervised probation. He also had pending charges in another area of the state, Curtis said.

Officials said they originally thought Lockner’s collapse was due to a medical issue, but soon came to believe he’d been the subject of a targeted attack.

The other five charged in Lockner’s assault and death also appeared in Criminal Court on Friday, but their cases were reset. Those defendants’ charges are:

• Woodard — reckless homicide, aggravated assault resulting in death and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting in death;

• Pearson — aggravated assault resulting in death and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting in death;

• Clouse —  aggravated assault resulting in death and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting in death;

• Albu —  aggravated assault resulting in death and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting in death;

• Necessary —  conspiracy to commit aggravated assault resulting in death;

Those five men were scheduled for another court date Nov. 11.
