Cantech Industries, a family owned business that has been manufacturing pressure sensitive tape since 1950 and has had a presence in Johnson City since the mid 1980s, was awarded the 2016 East Tennessee Region Business of the Year Award of Excellence by Tennessee Community Organizations at a banquet held in Nashville recently.

A longtime partner of Dawn of Hope, Cantech Industries is and has been an advocate for community integrated employment (employment of disabled and nondisabled individuals within local businesses) and currently employs five Dawn of Hope service recipients.

Plant Manager Mark Patton says, “It is a blessing and encouragement to all of us each day to work with the service recipients, and other employers are missing out on a wonderful experience if they don’t get on board with Integrated Employment.”

Cantech also provides contract work to our Vocational Program where individuals gain real-life work skills and expectations for employment, which facilitates an easier transition into community-integrated employment and builds self-confidence in the individual to pursue community employment opportunities.

Lee Chase, Dawn of Hope executive director, said that “Cantech has been and continues to be very supportive of our organization and constantly seeks ways in which to further benefit the mission.”

Dawn of Hope is proud to have partnerships with businesses, like Cantech, that make a difference in the community and enhance the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
