Five Questions for Rhonda Chafin

Rhonda Chafin has served as executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee since 1993. Under her direction, the Second Harvest Food Bank has become a “certified” food bank of Feeding America.

Second Harvest Food Bank has continued to grow by starting new initiatives to help feed more people, such as Food for Kids, a mobile food bank and mobile pantry programs.

Chafin is a native of Bristol, and is a graduate of Virginia Intermont College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, She is both a canine and feline person, with three dogs and one cat. Chafin said she is also enjoys singing or humming along with Huey Lewis and his version of “Cruisin.”

1.) What is the most satisfying part of your job?

“Helping people in need of food assistance in our community to assure they have access to food and resources.”

2.) What do you do to relax when things get stressful at work?

“I enjoy taking my dogs for a walk and spending time with family.”

3.) What surprises you most about our region?

“The variety of things to do and the recreation.”

4.) Where is your ideal vacation destination?

“Panama City Beach, Florida.”

5.) What advice would you give someone looking to make a difference in our community?

“Get involved with our local charities, civic organizations and Chambers of Commerce.”
