ELIZABETHTON — The second Saturday in July is coming up and that means its time for the Annual Carter County Car Show in downtown Elizabethton.

Club President Ron McCloud said this year’s event will once again be an all-day affair, followed by the usual weekly Cruise-In in downtown following the show.

McCloud said the year has already been a very good one for the weekly events and he expects that means it will be a great annual car show, with many vehicles not seen before.

“I expect their will be more than 200 entered,” McCloud said. “There should be great variety. This year has just been outstanding for us. We expect a lot of entries from out of town. We have preregistered more than 100. If we have good weather, we will have more than 200 entries.”

“We have some great door prizes and some nice goody bags,” McCloud said.

While the event is always a lot of fun for car lovers, it does have a serious purpose, and that is to raise money for children’s charities, including the Salvation Army  Angel Tree Program, the Friends of Down Syndrome Program, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the Carter County Schools Accelerated Reader Program, the Children’s Evangelism Fellowship, the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club and others.

The upswing in participation has already had an impact.

“We are really encouraged by the increase in donations,” McCloud said.

The show begins at 9 a.m. and goes until the weekly Cruise-In starts at 5 p.m. That event will last until 9 p.m.
