Daniel Norris, a graduate of Science Hill High School and now a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, will participate in a fundraiser for an outdoor classroom at Jacob’s Nature Park at Sinking Creek on Saturday, Jan. 9, at East Tennessee State University’s D.P. Culp University Center auditorium.

Guests who purchase one of the 100 VIP $50 tickets will begin the evening at 5 p.m., while those with $20 general admission tickets (or $10 tickets for those ages 5-17) will arrive at 5:30 for a live auction, interview with Norris and screening of the baseball-themed movie “Field of Dreams.”

Tickets may be purchased at www.jacobfrancisco.com or through Bill Francisco at 423-794-0794 or [email protected].

Jacob’s Nature Park at Sinking Creek is Johnson City’s newest park. The park’s name was selected by the Johnson City Commission to honor 6-year-old Jacob Francisco, who died in 2004 after two weeks of suffering the effects of E. coli.

Boone Watershed Partnership has taken a lead role in lowering the high E. coli content of Sinking Creek and building a hiking bridge over the creek. Future projects include building a large, covered outdoor classroom devoted to environmental studies.
