ERWIN — JETBroadcasting, Unicoi County’s only radio broadcaster, is marking more than more than 100 combined years on the air with a renewed commitment to its AM and FM stations forward-looking sports, news and entertainment formats.

JETBroadcasting President and General Manager Maria True, who implemented the stations’ all-talk formats after taking over the family-owned stations several years ago, credits trends in radio listenership for the success of the stations’ programming transition.

True said LiveWire Radio, JETBroadcasting’s 24-hour news station WXIS at 103.9 FM, “is the only format of its kind with a looped 30-minute format that repeats and adds new information with each update.”

And with sports talk programming on its WEMB 1420 AM frequency, including Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd, Chuck Oliver and local high school play by play, “JETbroadcasting is your voice of choice,” True said quoting one of the stations’ marketing catchphrases.

Staying current is what JETBroadcasting is known for, True said. “What is trending and considered the most popular formats in the country — news, talk and sports — JET Broadcasting's got them.

“Trends change and so do WXIS-FM, It’s the Tri-Cities only audio magazine that entertains your brain in short one-minute intervals with a repeating looped format that is created to keep you in the know on the go, from your car or desk speaker,” she said.

Running over the station’s history, True said JETBroadcasting began as WEMB in 1956 and acquired its WXIS-FM signal in 1969. “WXIS is fifty years strong and is the future of radio now,” she said.

Between the two stations, True said, “JETbroadcasting has over 100 years of experience in keeping up what is trending.”

Both stations stream live 24-hours daily at www.jetbroadcasting.live.
