Small Business Saturday will highlight Elizabethton on Saturday

ELIZABETHTON — Downtown Elizabethton has an answer to Black Friday.

It’s Small Business Saturday, featuring specials at shops and restaurants throughout downtown.

In keeping with the capitalist spirit at the heart of small businesses, there is no general sale. Each proprietor will mark Small Business Saturday in his or her own way, but here is a list from the Downtown Business Facebook Page that captures many of the sales opportunities:

• All Star Sports and Crafts (9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

• Antiques On Elk (10:30 a.m.to - 5 p.m.).

• Bee Thrifty (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.): featuring buy 3 get 1 of equal or lesser value free.

• Betsy Town Mercantile (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

• Big Dan's East TN BBQ Company (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

• Building 520 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.): featuring sales.

• Broad Street Hair Design (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.).

• Brumit Sports Shop (9 a.m. to noon).

• Book Worm Books (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.): featuring deals for book lovers.

• Cannon's Fine Home Furnishings (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.): featuring 50% off retail prices on all furniture and free delivery on purchases over $999.

• Cottage Boutique (9 a.m, to 6 p.m.): featuring giveaways and 20% off Willow Tree and Life is Good.

• Doe River Leather Works (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.).

• Duck Crossing Elizabethton (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.): featuring a gift with purchase, hot apple cider, and 20% off Howard's Products.

• The Dressing Room (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.): featuring refreshment and sales.

• Eagle Center Co-op (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.): featuring special promos.

• Elizabethton Sewing Center (9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.): featuring 20% off fabric machines and more.

• Farm Supply (8 a. m. to noon).

• Fletcher’s Homemade (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

• Forever Yours Wedding Center (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.): featuring 1/2 off everything.

• H&S Hunting and Fishing (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.): featuring specials.

• Jiggy Ray's Downtown Pizzeria (11 a.m. to 10 p.m.): featuring live music.

• Lingerfelt Drug and Gift Center (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.): featuring extended deals of Black Friday.

• Merle Norman Elizabethton (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.): featuring a gift with purchase, complimentary gift wrapping, and holiday color collection.

• The Coffee Company (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.): featuring sales.

• The Peddler's CART (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.): featuring 20% to 75% off and door prizes.

While there will be lots of sales and specials, the Facebook page for the downtown businesses also said there are many other good reasons for shopping small: “Shopping at our downtown businesses supports our community and helps build a stronger downtown. Did you know on average two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent at a small business in the U.S. stays in our local community? That means shopping small could help bring things like better schools, smoother roads, and new jobs to our neighborhoods.”
