DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS AND WHAT SETS IT APART FROM OTHERS IN THE AREA

Dos Gatos Coffee Bar is the kind of place that I always wished for in Johnson City. The Dos Gatos staff is passionate about coffee, and we really enjoy being able to do things like make our syrups in-house and come up with unique drinks.

Though we thankfully aren't the only business in the area to embrace local foods and environmentally friendly practices, we're proud to make those things priorities.

WHAT DREW YOU TO DOWNTOWN JOHNSON CITY?

I started frequenting downtown Johnson City when I was a teenager, over 20 years ago. At first it was because of shops like She and Planet X-Change, but as I got older I started going to Minglewood and Nelson Fine Art and The Hideaway. It has been a joy to watch downtown evolve over the years, and I'm so glad that I've been able to be a part of it.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS A BUSINESS OWNER?

It's a misconception that owning a business means working for yourself. When you own a business, you work for everybody.

WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL CUP OF COFFEE?

A cup of Ethiopian longberry harrar, brewed pour-over style with a Chemex brewer, sitting outside with a book.

DO YOU HAVE ADVICE FOR OTHERS LOOKING TO START A BUSINESS?

Roll with the punches. Things rarely go according to plan, at least not at first. Be involved and don't be afraid to let go of what isn't working.
