The Tennessee Department of Transportation has awarded the Tri-Cities Airport Authority a $1.69 million grant to continue developing Aerospace Park, according to a Monday press release.

The funding will allow the Airport Authority to complete the final phase of Aerospace Park’s construction, which includes final grading, access roads and utilities.

“Aerospace Park is an important economic development project for our region, and we appreciate the commitment Governor (Bill) Haslam and TDOT Commissioner (John) Schroer have made to its success through the award of this grant,” Jon Smith, chairman of the Airport Authority, said.

“We also greatly appreciate the support and hard work our legislative delegation, community partners and staff have devoted to this project.”

The grant will come from the TDOT’s Economic Development Fund. The purpose of that fund is to advance job creation and investment opportunities in the aerospace industry, and help Tennessee’s airports continue to be economic development engines for their regions and the state.
