Rebranded from the familiar Dunkin’ Donuts to simply Dunkin,’ the doughnuts, coffee and sandwich shop hosted a grand opening celebration Thursday at its new location at 517 Jonesborough Road (Tenn. Highway 107).
Billed as the “Dunkin’ restaurant design of the future,” the shop features a more open and airy dining room with lots of natural lighting, a cold coffee and tea tap system, a new high volume brewing system to keep the hot coffee flowing, a new Dunkin’ product merchandising island at the center of the store and a “Mobile On the Go” station for quick pick up of orders placed via a mobile phone app.
Also part of the new design, digital menu kiosks for self-placed orders will be installed in the restaurant dining room and drive-thru lane within the next few months. Dining room hours are 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. and the drive-thru is open 24 hours daily.
Sharon Trow, director of Dunkin’s franchise relations and development, said all the new features were implemented to improve customer service. And she credited Tri-Cities area Dukin’ managers and for making it all happen in Erwin.
Arie Kotler, CEO of Dunkin’ franchisee Broyles Hospitality, said the company was “very excited to be a part of the future of the Dunkin’ brand” and “thrilled to open the second (Dunkin’) next generation store in Tennessee.”
To celebrate, Thursday’s grand opening included a year’s worth of free coffee and Dunkin’ gift bags for the first 50 customers through the door, door prizes including smart watches, bluetooth speakers and Dunkin’ gift baskets, backpacks, coolers and camp chairs, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Erwin Mayor Doris Hensley and Bucky, the East Tennessee State University mascot.
Trow said the new Erwin Dunkin’ has so far employed 28 people and is looking to hire more, including bakers, team members, shift manager and assistant managers on all shifts. Applications may be submitted online at www.tridonuts.com.
Tennessee’s first next generation Dunkin’ opened in Knoxville earlier this year and the next will open at the Pinnacle Center in Bristol in 2019.
