AAA: Gas prices lowest since April

Gas prices are finally plunging after crude oil prices fell to eight-month lows last week, according to a AAA report released Monday.

Tennessee motorists have witnessed a 19-cent gas price decline in the past 31 days. Sunday’s state average fell 5 cents to $2.50 per gallon of regular unleaded gas before falling down to $2.48 on Tuesday — the lowest prices seen since April.

Tuesday’s gas price average in Johnson City stood at $2.50 per gallon. Despite the recent discount, the average Tennessean is still paying 16 cents per gallon more than this time last year.

"Tennesseans are beginning to find some of the lowest gas prices they've seen since April," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a news release. "The price of producing gasoline has dramatically declined during the past month, thanks to concerns of lower global demand and strong fuel supply and production.

“Unless oil prices change course, motorists could easily see pump prices shed another 10-20 cents before 2019, and slip below year-ago levels by Thanksgiving."
