Spokesperson Brian Nick said the transition will help the company meet future demand and will make the distribution territory more efficient.
The consolidation will take place by the end of October, when most of Coke Consolidated’s Bristol employees move to the Johnson City location on Wesley Street. There are currently 90 employees working at the Johnson City facility, and after the consolidation, there will be 130.
Nick said fewer than 10 employees will lose their positions, and the company plans to work with them to try to find transfer opportunities elsewhere.
Based in Charlotte, Coke Consolidated is the country’s largest independent Coca-Cola bottler. In 2014, Coke Consolidated signed an agreement with the global soft drink maker to expand its franchise territory into East Tennessee. As part of the deal, Coke Consolidated bought Coca-Cola’s distribution assets in the area, becoming the exclusive distributor of Coke products.
Coke Consolidated has continued to expand its footprint since then, growing from 6,500 employees to more than 16,000.
