Carter County Bank holds groundbreaking for new branch building on Broad Street.

ELIZABETHTON — One of the busiest branches of Carter County Bank will soon have a new look, after a year of planning and construction that started this month. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new branch on Broad Street was held on June 12.

On hand for the ceremony were numerous employees, board members, members of the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the project’s partners Burleson Construction and Reedy & Sykes. The ceremony began with a welcome from Chris Hitechew, the president of the Chamber of Commerce. He greeted guests and welcomed them on behalf of the bank and chamber.

William B. Greene Jr., chairman of BancTenn Corp — the bank’s holding company, was pleased with the turnout of guests and commented on the history of the location.

“The building currently on site was built in the mid-1970s and it is time to improve the facility, technology, parking and traffic flow,” Greene said.

This location remains one of the busiest branches in Northeast Tennessee. Locally owned and operated companies from Burleson Construction and Reedy & Sykes have been working with the bank on the renovation to ensure that the new building is well designed and efficient. Renovations are now underway and the bank’s employees will move to a temporary building on site on July 6 to continue to serve customers until the new facility is completed.

Senior management at the bank worked for over a year on designing several improvements to the branch, including improved traffic flow from Broad Street, additional drive-thru lanes with extended hours of operation, and a new layout for the lobby and offices. Customers will still be able to enter the bank from the east and west sides, but the lobby will be more open.

Andrew McKeehan, pesident of Carter County Bank said, “This renovation and investment is another example of our commitment to the community to provide the best banking experience possible. We have long had the reputation of excellent customer service, and the new layout will give us the opportunity to improve the customer experience within the bank through a more efficient use of our lobby space. It will also allow for the addition of multiple ITM’s for extended banking hours.”

The ITM’s, or interactive teller machines look like a traditional ATM. Customers can use it like an traditional ATM or they can interact with one of the bank tellers through a two-way video. Personal service through the drive-thru plus will be offered Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traditional ATM service is available 24/7.
