This designation recognizes community owned, non-profit public power utilities that display operational excellence in four key aspects: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. The RP3 designation found BrightRidge with a score of 96.5 out of 100, qualifying them for them platinum level.
Applications are reviewed by a panel of 18 nationally recognized utility experts in safety, transmission and distribution, and system planning. Criteria considered for the designation includes the use of data to inform business operations, including reliability, physical and cyber safety; development of a culture of safety within the workforce; staff development and training; and demonstrable efforts towards continuous improvement through research, planning, and commitment to system betterment programs.
Neil James, Manager of Distribution Operations at Santee Cooper, South Carolina and chairman of APPA’s RP3 review panel gave out the awards during the Association’s recent Engineering & Operations Technical Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. There are 240 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation.
BrightRidge delivers power to 78,000 citizens in all of Washington County, in addition to portions of Sullivan, Carter and Greene County areas.
