Season ends for Lady Pioneers, Indians

DANDRIDGE — A slow start sank David Crockett’s chances in Friday’s Region 1-AAA girls basketball quarterfinals at Jefferson County.

The Lady Patriots held Crockett to nine first-half points in a 67-35 victory.

Alexa Gramman and Makayla Alvey each scored 15 points in the Jefferson County victory. Madee Denton came through with 13 points.

Zoe Sanders, Emily Trivette and Mackenzie Baldwin all finished with six points to lead David Crockett.

Sevier County 42, Dobyns-Bennett 27

SEVIERVILLE — The Bearettes ended the game on a 15-0 run as Dobyns-Bennett failed to make a shot in the final seven and a half minutes.

Megan Ayers tied the game with a 3-point shot prior to the cold streak.

McKenna Loveday led Dolly Parton’s alma mater with 16 points and freshman Shilah Whaley added 12, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Sevier County a 17-15 halftime lead.

Olivia Doran was the leading scorer for Dobyns-Bennett with nine points, followed by Jabrea Johnson with eight.

1-AA quarterfinals

South Greene 63, Johnson County 59

GREENEVILLE — Playing without leading scorer Taylor Cox for a second straight game, the Lady Longhorns led 59-58 late in the fourth quarter.

Emmy Miller had a team-best 16 points for Johnson County, which set a school record with 23 wins. Sadie Stout scored 13 points and Abby Cornett was on her heels with 12 points.

Haley Kells had a game-high 24 for South Greene. Kiley Collins scored 12 and Jayden Merriweather ended with 10.

1-A quarterfinals

Cloudland 51, Washburn 30

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Leah Birchfield scored 13 points and the Lady Highlanders rolled in their Region 1-A quarterfinal win over Washburn.

Gracie Freeman netted nine and Jasmine Birchfield ended with eight after Cloudland led 29-7 at halftime.

Braelyn Coffey had nearly half of Washburn’s total with 14 points.

Unaka 48, Greenback 27

GREENBACK — Freshman Lyndie Ramsey had another productive offensive night with 21 points as the Lady Rangers won big on the road.

Macy Ensor added eight points in the Region 1-A quarterfinal victory. Lily Morton salted away eight points for Greenback.

Cosby 66, Hampton 38

COSBY — The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 28-9 lead and cruised to the win against the Lady Bulldogs in the Region 1-A quarterfinal.

Hannah Collins paced Hampton in the season-ending loss with 11 points. Hazen Brumitt was next high scorer with six.

Braly McGaha was the leader for Cosby with 17 points. Leia Good had 11 points and Tessa McGaha scored nine.
