Earlier in the evening, the Lady Patriots of Sullivan East swept the season series against their cross-county rival with a no-doubt 58-23 victory.
The Rebels took the lead for good when Ben Diamond scored with 45 seconds left as his jumper in the lane made the score 70-68. Diamond, who tied the score 35 seconds earlier, led all scorers with 28 points. He totaled 16 points in the second half.
With the win, Sullivan South (21-3, 9-0 TRC) secured at least a top-two seed for the District 1-AA tournament. Sullivan East battled and went to 12-12 overall with a 5-3 league mark, now a game behind Elizabethton in third place.
The game was a close affair the entire way with no lead being more than six points throughout.
Sullivan East took a 67-66 edge when Dylan Bartley knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:11 on the clock. With the aid of three 3-pointers, Bartley led the home team with 23 points. Eric Hare chipped in a dozen while Austin Davis totaled 10.
Cole Layne gave Sullivan South another 19 points as both teams hit 10 3-pointers in the contest.
Sullivan South took both meetings against the Patriots by a combined 11 points this season.

Sullivan East (16-9, 6-2) had all the answers for the Lady Rebels.
Balanced scoring helped the Lady Patriots to a 31-17 halftime lead and that margin kept growing in the second half. Hayley Grubb paced everyone with 16 points. Jenna Hare tossed in 11 and Emma Aubrey hit a set of three 3-pointers for nine.
The Lady Rebels (8-15, 2-6) had a trio of players — Nicole Troutman, Chloe Nelson and McKenzie Littleton — score four apiece.
Sullivan East travels to Unicoi County for a Friday meeting. Sullivan South takes a trip to Volunteer Friday for a non-conference meeting.
