Happy Valley downs Chuckey-Doak in opener

ELIZABETHTON — Noah Stevens had a 24-point performance as Happy Valley defeated Chuckey-Doak 67-63 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night at Bayless Gym.

Luke Roberts ended with 17 and James Harmon scored 10 as the Warriors emerged with the hard-fought win.

Alex Maupin scored a game-high 25 to lead the Black Knights. Tyler Ramsey tallied 15 points and Jameson Cobble added 10. Tied at 34 at the half, the game was tight throughout.

Sullivan North 70, West Greene 41

KINGSPORT — Spearheading a balanced attack, Jacob Cross had 13 points to lead the Golden Raiders to the big win over the Buffaloes.

Trey Williams was next with 12 points, followed by Isaiah Pruitt with 11. Tyler Depriest and Bryant Herron each scored nine.

Braylan Radar scored nine points to lead West Greene.


Happy Valley 53, Chuckey-Doak 30

ELIZABETHTON — The Lady Warriors shut out the Lady Knights in the first quarter and held them to eight first-half points in the season-opening win.

Olivia Absher paced Happy Valley on the offensive end with 11 points. Shalyn Whitson finished with nine points, followed by Emma Blevins with eight and Autumn Henegar with seven.

Sierra Jaynes had a game-high 13 points for Chuckey-Doak.

Dobyns-Bennett 43, Sullivan East 40

BLUFF CITY — Ellie Francis nailed a 3-pointer from the corner off an inbounds play with 3.2 seconds left to lift the Lady Indians over the Lady Patriots.

East’s Hayley Grubb had tied the game on a layup with 20 seconds left as the game went back-and-forth over the final couple of minutes.

Jabrea Johnson and Megan Ayers each finished with nine points to lead Dobyns-Bennett. Francis scored eight points and Caitlyn Wallace ended with seven.

Grubb had a game-high 16 points for East. Jenna Hare barely missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Ashley Nunley finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

Sullivan Central 66, Unaka 36

ELIZABETHTON — Macy McClellan netted a dozen points and Joelyn West was right behind with 11 to lead the Lady Cougars to the road win over Unaka.

Abbey Crawford scored nine, while Avery Leming and Parker Hurd each had eight in the balanced attack.

Lyndie Ramsey had nearly half of the Lady Rangers’ production with 17 points and Jada Whitehead finished with eight.

West Greene 61, Sullivan North 47

KINGSPORT — Maddy Winters scored 17 points and Lilly Crawford ended with a dozen in a losing effort for the Lady Golden Raiders.

North missed its chances by going just 12-of-36 at the free-throw line.

Providence Academy 61, Concord Christian 18

KNOXVILLE — Hitting six shots from 3-point range, Christen Sholes finished with 24 points to lead the Lady Knights to a blowout win.

Mary McAllister added eight and Katie Cross added seven in the Providence win. Maddie Mee had seven to lead Concord.
