High school roundup: Morristown East eliminates Daniel Boone

MORRISTOWN — Connor Jordan and Cameron Rymer combined for 60 points to lead Morristown East to an 85-64 win over Daniel Boone in Saturday night’s TSSAA Region 1-AAA boys’ basketball quarterfinal.

Jordan had a game-high 33 points and Rymer posted a 27-point effort.

The Trailblazers rallied from a 14-point deficit to take a four-point lead late in the first half. The Hurricanes responded with a 15-2 run and pulled away for the victory.

Chad Heglar was 9-of-16 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, to end his Daniel Boone High School career with a 23-point performance. Heglar also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and dished out six assists. Judah Hilton scored 15 points and Caleb Adkins followed with 14.

Dobyns-Bennett 79, Morristown West 61

KINGSPORT — Marae Foreman scored 25 points as the District 1-AAA champion Indians continued their march through the postseason.

Charlie Browder had 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Dobyns-Bennett, while Riamello Wadsworth scored 15 points.

Jamal Spradling led the Trojans with 23 points, while Makai Olden scored 12.

Sullivan South 79, South Greene 70

KINGSPORT — A low-scoring game through three quarters turned into a shootout with each team scoring 35 points in the final eight minutes.

Ben Diamond cut his way to the basket in a 33-point effort. Cole Layne had 18 points, while Chase Bowery accounted for 16 points.

Landon Brown and Lennart Schultz each had 22 points to lead the Greene County version of the Rebels. Ty Bailey finished with 12 points in South Greene’s season-ender.

Cosby 70, Hampton 61

COSBY — Five Eagles hit double figures in their victory over the Bulldogs.

Troy Johnson led the way with 19 points. Austin McKeehan ended with 14 points, followed by Braden Shaffer with 12, Riley Galler with 12 and Seth Arrowood with 10.

Izaak Hill paced the Bulldogs with 16 points. Jordan Bentley totaled 14 points and Conor Jones came through with 12.

Unaka 56, Jellico 49

JELLICO — Ryan Johnson hit six shots from 3-point range in an 18-point performance as the Rangers went on the road and doused the Blue Devils’ postseason hopes.

Isaac Hill also had 18 points for Unaka, while John Ramsey tallied 14 points.

Bobby Zecchini had a game-high 22 points for Jellico and Jerney Ivey finished with a dozen points.

Berean Christian 65, Tri-Cities Christian 64

HERMITAGE — Bearen hit a buzzer-beating, 3-point shot to defeat Tri-Cities Christian in the TAACS state final.

Landon Anderson led the way for the Knoxville-based Eagles with 30 points. Andrew Harmon finished with 21 points.

Adam Pigeon led Tri-Cities Christian with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Gavyn Etter had 17 points and Drew Correll scored 12 points.

John Gewelke and Chris Smith also made the all-tournament team.

Friday

Tri-Cities Christian 65, Macon Road 58

Behind 21 points and 10 rebounds from Drew Correll, Tri-Cities Christian defeated Macon Road 65-58 in semifinal action.

Gavyn Etter tossed in 14 points, John Gewelke scored 11 and Adam Pigeon, with nine points and 12 rebounds, narrowly missed a double-double for the Eagles. Brandon Bullock grabbed 10 rebounds.
