Going 30 of 34 from the charity stripe, the Buccaneers collected a 64-51 Watauga Valley Conference victory over Unaka at Snavely Gymnasium.
Leading scorer Marshall Fleenor made all 10 of his free throws in a 17-point performance, and second-leading scorer Jake Hubbard was 10 of 12 at the line while piling up 16 points. Hubbard also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Kaleb Meredith added a dozen points and seven rebounds as the Bucs jumped out to a 21-8 lead at the end of one quarter and led 39-22 at the half before Unaka challenged them in the second half.
“Anytime you play Unaka, you know you’re in for a battle,” University High coach Justin Penley said. “From tip to buzzer, they give everything they have. Every conference win is a good one for this club, especially when we can come to Unaka and come away with a win.
“I’m proud of my guys. We were 30 for 34 from the free-throw line. We got off to a great start and then relied on our experience to make basketball winning plays down the stretch.”
John Ramsey finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Rangers. Isaac Hill scored 12 points, going 8 for 10 at the free-throw line, and Ryan Johnson finished with 11 points.
While UH moved to 2-0 in league play and 11-3 overall, Unaka slipped to 0-2, 8-7.

Savannah Tipton added 11 points for Unaka (7-8, 2-0 WVC), which pulled away late after having better shot selection in the second half.
“They were packing in on Myah inside and we weren’t taking shots in the first half,” Unaka coach Kenneth Chambers said. “We had some players like Tara Whitehead come off the bench to make shots. It was a tough conference game and we knew we would have our hands full. We did a better job defensively in the second half. We just have to put four quarters together.”
