Baker lifts Volunteer over Crockett at the buzzer

Peyton Baker scored on a put-back at the buzzer to give Volunteer a 62-60 victory over David Crockett in Big Seven Conference basketball activity on Tuesday night.

Volunteer, which is 2-0 in the league, rallied from eight points down in the late stages for the win.

Baker’s putback came after Chance Johnson drove the lane. Johnson was the leading scorer for Volunteer with 14 points. Eli Churchwell was right behind with 13 and Brody Hunley scored 11.

Mason Britton scored 18 of his game-high 23 points from 3-point range. Ayden Begley scored 14 for Crockett, which also got 10 points from Dawson Wagner.

Sullivan South 52, Unicoi County 47

ERWIN — A balanced attack by the Rebels led to the key Three Rivers Conference road win against the Blue Devils.

Ben Diamond led the way with 14 points. South also got nine points each from Gannon Chase and Cooper Johnson and seven points from Cole Layne.

Brock Thompson paced Unicoi County with 15 points. Brett Lingerfelt finished with 11 and Austin O’Dell scored 10 for the Devils.

Sullivan Central 51, Happy Valley 47

BLOUNTVILLE — The Cougars held off a Warriors rally behind the efforts of Ben Williams, who ended with a game-high 21 points. Caleb Rose chipped in a dozen after Central led Happy Valley 24-14 at the half.

Noah Stevens scored a game-high 24 points for the Warriors, who saw Bryce Carter end with 14 points.

Honaker, Va. 68, Sullivan North 56

KINGSPORT — Grayson Honaker, Trajon Boyd and Brett Boyd accounted for 60 of the Tigers’ 68 points in the win over the Golden Raiders.

Honaker led Honaker with 31 points, while Trajon Boyd tallied 17 and Brett Boyd added a dozen.

Trey Williams topped the charts for North with 14 points, followed by Yancy Dolan with 12, Tyler Depriest with 11 and Dale Potter with eight.

North Greene 71, Tri-Cities Christian 41

BLOUNTVILLE — Kendel Loftis finished with a game-high 21 points as the Huskies took down the Eagles.

Brandon Malone scored 12 points and Chance Campbell posted 11 points in the win. Adam Pigeon dropped in 12 points and Drew Correll added nine for Tri-Cities.



David Crockett 55, Volunteer 42

Mackenzie Baldwin had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Pioneers in the victory. Emily Trivette finished with 15 points, with three goals behind the 3-point arc, and Emma Gouge totaled 11 points and nine rebounds.

Kenady Knittel had six 3-point goals as part of a game-high 26 points.

Sullivan Central 47, Happy Valley 30

BLOUNTVILLE — Leading 25-21 at the half, the Lady Cougars held the Lady Warriors to just nine points in the second half to earn the victory.

Peyton Sams was the leading scorer for Central with 16 points, followed by Avery Leming with 13 points and Abbey Crawford with 10.

Shay Whitson had 15 points to lead Happy Valley.

Unicoi County 56, Sullivan South 47

ERWIN — Kaylee Hendrickson hit four shots behind the 3-point arc in a 20-point performance to lead the Lady Devils over the Lady Rebels.

Ashton Vance added 13 points for Unicoi County. Their efforts helped overcome a 28-point performance from South’s Mollie Leslie. Alex Harris added 12 points for the Lady Rebels.

Gate City, Va. 62, Johnson County 45

GATE CITY, Va. — Sarah Thompson finished with 23 points as the Lady Devils finished off a dominant performance against the Lady Longhorns.

Kate Pendleton contributed 13 points and Jaden Fullen added eight in the win.
