The Hall, now in its seventh year of existence, will induct a group of 24 individuals. Representing Elizabethton High are Steve Grindstaff (football), Randall Birchfield (football), Vince Redd (football, basketball) and Mike Wilson (coaching, administrative).
Entering the Hall of Fame from Happy Valley will be Cheri McNeil (basketball), Tony Walker (basketball), Scotty Verran (football, track) and Monta Clark (basketball). Barry Stocton (football/basketball) will go in for Cloudland, as will Randy Birchfield (football), Laura Jarrett Hicks (basketball) and Junior Holdren (basketball).
Former Unaka basketball stars Dallas Williams, Aaron Dugger, Richard Hodge and Marsha Taylor have been pegged for enshrinement. The names of Hampton’s Glenda Blevins Conner (basketball), Kevin Ward (basketball), Carl Roberson (basketball) and Scotty Bunton (athlete, coach) also appear on the 2018 honor roll.
The list continues with Tony Wallingford, the former basketball and current golf at Milligan College. Blevins Conner is already a Milligan Hall of Famer, and Williams and Ward played collegiately for the Buffaloes as well.
National Slow Pitch Hall of Fame softball player Bud Whitehead, esteemed TSSAA official Bo Nave and former Science Hill basketball coach Bill Wilkins, who carved out a niche as a radio commentator for Carter County high school basketball, will also join the HOF.
Former EHS softball standout Katie Hubbard Blevins was originally included in the new crop of honorees. However, due to a scheduling conflict, her induction has been postponed till the fall/winter ceremony.
Admission to the June banquet is $20 per person or $10 for children under age 14, personal presenters and past inductees. A meal is included in that cost.
