They dropped out of the Region 1-AA basketball tournament, losing to Greeneville 75-59 on Unicoi County’s court.
Unicoi grew tired of seeing Sydni Lollar nail shot after shot as she finished with a monster 41 points. Lollar was the engine and facilitator of the offense for Greeneville, which advance to play South Greene in the semifinals at 7:30.
Senior Halie Padgett had a big finish for Unicoi County with 24 points. The Lady Blue Devils ended their season with a record of 20-10.
UNICOI MOUNTS A RALLY
Unicoi attempted to rally the troops in the third quarter, cutting the six-point halftime deficit to just three points with under four minutes left. But it was all for naught as the Devils took an eight-point advantage into the fourth.
Lollar was held to just six points in the third quarter.
WORKING INSIDE OUT
The Greeneville guards had a significant size advantage over Unicoi County and it was evident as Lollar was taking over the game. She had five possessions in the second quarter where she drove to the hoop, stopped on a dime, and pulled up for a sweet jump shot.
When she was double-teamed, Leah Fillers would nail a 3-pointer off a kickout pass from Lollar.
Both Greeneville and Unicoi County got off to solid starts in the first quarter in what was shaping up to be a physical, back-and-forth game.
The Lady Greene Devils had the outside game going while the Lady Blue Devils got Padgett in rhythm early.
Greeneville had the early advantage after one, leading 23-13 after a late 8-0 run.
