The freshman center fielder hit an inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning to lead Milligan College to a 7-2 victory over St. Andrews University in the first game of an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader.
The Buffs (11-6, 3-0) won 4-1 in game two for the day and weekend sweep.
Milligan has been using TVA Ballpark as its home field as their on-campus field recently sustained flood damage. The change in venue was fine for Grable, a former Science Hill standout who played his high school games at the former Cardinal Park.
“I love being back here. Back in my Science Hill days, my first inside-the-park home run, I hit just like that,” Grable said. “It’s great that I got to do the same thing in college.”
The Buffs scored three runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run single by Blake Dutton to score Will Findley and Grable.
Grable went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Lead-off Brandon Marello finished 3-for-4 with a double.
Garrett Wilkins went six innings, allowing two runs, six hits and three walks.
Milligan 4, St. Andrews 1
Grable scored off a RBI single by Juan Vasquez to give Milligan an early in the third inning.
The Knights (11-10, 0-3) tied in the top of the fifth, but the Buffs responded with Chance Hall’s two-run double and Richard Polinsky’s fielder’s choice, which scored Vasquez.
Brandon Marello went the distance in a seven-inning affair. He struck out six and allowed just three hits, one walk and one earned run.
Vasquez was 2-for-3 at the plate and Grable scored two runs to lead the Buffs.
