Johnny Loyd clubbed a two-run double and Jacob Rambo an RBI single to help the Pioneers built a 5-0 first-inning lead. Crockett carried a 6-1 lead into the fifth, but Hardin Valley pushed across four runs in each of the final two frames.
Cade Larkins batted 2 for 2 and Landon Quillen 2 for 2 for the Pioneers, who got two runs, two walks and a pair of stolen bases from leadoff man Luke Adams.
Crockett played two Friday games in Morristown, dropping a 9-8, six-inning battle to the West Trojans before besting Sullivan South 14-8 in five frames.
A five-run sixth rallied the Pioneers to an 8-6 advantage versus West, which answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to end it.
Quillen connected for a two-run double and stole home before Larkins tagged a two-run homer in the Crockett sixth.
Larkins turned in a 2-for-4, 3-RBI performance. Grady Cash and Cody Wheeley both had two hits for the Pioneers, who got an early two-run homer from Austin Hensley.
Cash totaled three of his team’s 10 stolen bases. Loyd and Quillen each accounted for two.
Withstanding a seven-run, second-inning charge that erased its 5-0 lead, Crockett pounded out 13 hits in vexing Sullivan South. Six of those hits were of the extra-base variety (4 doubles, 2 triples).
Amassing four RBIs, Adams went 2 for 3 with a double and triple, scored twice and drew a pair of walks. Larkins was 3 for 3 with three RBIs while Cash was good for two hits — including a double — two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Nolan Miller (triple, 2 runs) and Dakota Stout (double, 2 RBIs) each added a pair of hits.
Cody Wheeley pitched two innings of closing, shutout relief for the victory.
Going 2 for 4 from the top of the order, James Seto paced a six-hit Rebels output. Chase Bowery, Jeffrey Leonard and Austin Monds had two RBIs apiece.
Lebanon 7, Science Hill 3
MURFREESBORO—The Hilltoppers tied the game at 3 on Landon Slemp’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Luke Bradshaw led off a four-run Lebanon eighth with a home run to left field.
Slemp, who recorded two RBIs, and Josh Wooten both batted 2 for 4 for the Hilltoppers.
Ty Bailey went 3 for 4 (double), scored twice and had two RBIs in pacing the Blue Devils. Bradshaw doubled and totaled two runs in a 2-for-4 showing.
Hilltoppers pitcher Drew Honeycutt turned in a solid five-inning start, yielding three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk. He registered four strikeouts.
Science Hill 5, Blackman 4
MURFREESBORO—The Hilltoppers battled their way back from a 4-1 deficit, overtaking Blackman with a two-run sixth.
A run-scoring single off the bat of Landon Slemp knotted the score at 4, then Caleb Marmo came home on a balk.
Cade McCoy provided productive at the top of Science Hill’s order, going 2 for 2 with three walks and a pair of runs. Slemp snagged two RBIs in a 2-for-4 outing while Marmo drew three bases on balls, scored two times and went 1 for 1.
As a team, the ’Toppers coaxed 10 walks from Blackman’s pitchers. Three shutout innings of closing relief earned Andrew Miller a win.
