Bucs win in Knack’s ETSU debut

Landon Knack settled down and the East Tennessee State baseball team earned its second victory of the season.

Knack, a former Science Hill star, rebounded from allowing three runs in the first inning and the Bucs went on to beat Iona 14-3 Saturday at Thomas Stadium.

Jackson Greer hit a grand slam for ETSU, giving him two home runs in two games.

Knack, who went 13-0 for Walters State, pitched four innings, allowing four hits and three walks. He struck out four.

The Bucs’ bullpen followed with five innings of two-hit ball. Matt Mercer was the winning pitcher after working three scoreless innings.

Greer and Cade Gilbert each drove in four runs, while Colby Emmertz drove in three. Greer, whose two-run home run won the season opener, belted a third-inning grand slam that gave ETSU the lead for good. Gilbert went 3 for 5 and Emmertz had a three-run double in the eighth.

Joe DeMaio had two hits for the Gaels. Jake Field had a two-run double.

The two teams will close the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
