In the opener of a three-game series to close the regular season, the Twins got two innings from starting pitcher Luis Rijo before Brian Rapp lasted three frames, giving up two fifth-inning runs.
Blair Lakso (6-2) followed with three innings of his own from the mound, then Tanner Howell threw the ninth.
All five of the Yankees’ hits came off Rapp.
The West Division champion Twins (38-26) finished with seven hits, getting a 2-for-3 effort from Jared Akins while Jean Carlos Arias came through with a 2-for-4 night. Both players scored twice and drew a walk.
Arias scored on an Alex Robles groundout after leading off the bottom of the first with a triple. He made it 2-0 in the third by lining a single to right, stealing second and taking advantage of back-to-back wild pitches.
A throwing error by Yankees second baseman Griffith Garabito enabled Colton Burns and Akins to cross the plate in the fourth.
Elizabethton capped its scoring output with three consecutive hits in the eighth. Akins batted his way aboard and Ricky De La Torre doubled to set up Robert Molina’s two-run single.
Pulaski’s Evan Alexander went 2 for 3.
