PRINCETON, W.Va. — Despite a five-run ninth inning rally, the Elizabethton Twins fell short of a comeback Sunday night at Princeton, losing to the Rays 8-7.
Chris Williams went 3-for-5 for Elizabethton with two home runs — including a grand slam in the ninth — finishing with five RBIs. Albee Weiss also had a solo homer for the Twins.
The inning that doomed the Twins (6-5) was the fifth, when Princeton scored four runs to break a 2-2 tie.
The Rays (7-5) added two more two innings later and the hole was too big to overcome for the Twins.
