Piling up 19 hits, including nine of the extra-base variety, the unbeaten Twins pounded Bristol into submission with a 19-5 Appalachian League baseball win.
Andrew Cosgrove (2 for 5, double) drove in four runs while Ricky De La Torre (2 for 4, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 walks), Chris Williams (2 for 4, home run, 2 runs, 2 walks) and Alex Robles (1 for 5, double, 2 runs) added three RBIs apiece. Ryan Jeffers was flawless at the plate, going 4 for 4 with three runs, two of his team’s six doubles and a pair of walks.
Working from the top of the order, Jared Akins went 3 for 5 and scored three times. No. 9 hitter Yunior Severino also batted 3 for 5 (home run), adding two runs and a pair of RBIs, while DaShawn Keirsey tripled and scored twice in a 2-for-6 showing.
Williams and Severino both homered with a man aboard.
Featuring a seven-run seventh, Elizabethton (4-0) pushed across all but four of its runs after the fourth inning.
The Twins used four pitchers, with Austin Schulfer, Christian Broussard, Seth Pinkerton and Rickey Ramirez (1-0) eating up less than three innings apiece and combining for 10 strikeouts. Recording four Ks, Ramirez worked a perfect eighth and ninth to gain the victory.
Mason Martin was 2 for 4 for the Pirates, who were limited to six hits. Roger Santana absorbed the loss, yielding four runs in 3 1/3 innings from the mound.
