Carver Recreation Center is preparing to celebrate its 60th year of service to the community with a week-long series of anniversary events planned for Sept. 16 - 22.

Sesquicentennial Commissioner Donna Noland told her colleagues a fountain and light show on the weekends have become very popular in other cities.
“There is a financial return on investing in fountains and lights,” she said. “They also bring people together.”
The nine-member commission agreed to meet again next week with City Public Works Director Phil Pindzola to discuss ideas for a signature sesquicentennial project. Members also want to hear from city residents, as well as gauge feedback from a recent community survey conducted by a Nashville firm charged with branding the city.
Tony and Jane McKeehan were busy Monday afternoon preparing for a trip to Waco, Texas. But they agreed to spend a few hours talking about the event that changed their lives 25 years ago.
