When the high school football season began in August, many Tri-Cities area teams had high hopes for a season to remember. Unfortunately none of those dreams lasted past the second round of the TSSAA playoffs.
MOUNTAIN CITY — Johnson County’s dream season came to an end Friday night, but not until Nathan Arnold and Shane Greer gave Austin-East nightmares.
MOUNTAIN CITY — For the first time since 1988, there was postseason football at McEwen Stadium/Arnold Field as the Johnson County Longhorns entertained Northview Academy.
MOUNTAIN CITY — The Johnson County Longhorns had never been 10-0 in the regular season. The last time a team was undefeated was 1980, when the 9-0 Longhorns were beaten by Knox-Rule in the first round of the playoffs.
It’s the game these teams have been waiting for all year.
Famous for being in the opposite corner from Memphis, Mountain City is on the state map in 2017 for a different reason — thanks to a bunch of Longhorns.

CORRYTON — Trey Mullins scored on a 3-yard run with one second left in the game, giving Gibbs a 21-20 victory over David Crockett in a non-conference high school football game on Friday night.
AFTON — Special teams and defense get the lion’s share of credit for Johnson County’s third victory in as many weeks.

ERWIN — The playoff picture for Unicoi County and Johnson County was as clear as the sky over Gentry Stadium on Friday night. The winner plays in next week's Class 3A Playoffs, while the loser’s season comes to an end.
BLUFF CITY — Sullivan East kept the formula the same and used a running attack mixed with timely passes to open the season with a 34-7 win over Johnson County on Thursday.
GREENEVILLE —Desmond Dabbs rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns to lead Greeneville to a 24-0 win over Knox Carter in the opening round of the TSSAA Class 4A playoffs.
