The Detroit Tigers have Johnson City connections in first-year manager Brad Ausmus and assistant coach Ed Hodge. Ausmus' father, Harry, graduated from Science Hill in 1955. Hodge is a former Johnson City police officer.

Fourth-year Columbia State head baseball coach Mike Corn guided the Chargers to the JUCO World Series this week in Grand Junction, Colorado. Columbia State went 2-2 in the Series and will likely end up ranked anywhere from fourth to sixth in the nation.
