Pole winners haven't fared well recently at Bristol

While winning drivers do typically come from the top spots, pole winners haven't fared as well in recent years. Carl Edwards was the last pole winner to win at Bristol with his victory in the 2008 IRWIN Tools Night Race.

Matt Kenseth wasn't expecting to be on the pole for the Food City 500 following Friday's first practice session when he was 15th fastest on the speed charts. A few hours later, Kenseth was celebrating his first pole of the season and his second at BMS.
